Try Hockey for Free

Want to Try Hockey for Free?

The Sun Prairie Youth Hockey Association (SPYHA) invites kids ages four to nine years old to the Sun Prairie Ice Arena on Saturday,  April 6, 2:30-3:30 PM for a Try Hockey for Free clinic to experience ice hockey for the first time and learn the basics of the sport in a fun, safe environment.  Skates, equipment, and sticks are provided at no cost to participants.  (Players are asked to bring a helmet - bike helmet is fine - and winter gloves, because although we try to fit every child we can with full hockey equipment, we may not have all sizes/quantities available.)

It's not necessary to have skating experience to Try Hockey for Free, and this is the perfect opportunity to sample hockey before making any commitment or investment.  Best of all, Try Hockey for Free participants will have the opportunity to enroll in skating lessons or a special learn to play program after the event.  The learn to play program, "New to SPYHA Hockey," is intended for children who have the ability to skate without assistance and would like to continue with the fun of Try Hockey for Free, again without significant investment or commitment.  The New to SPYHA Hockey registration will open right after Try Hockey for Free.

Try Hockey for Free Day is designed to provide youth hockey associations a national platform to introduce new kids to the sport.  It is a joint effort between USA Hockey, the National Hockey League, NHL member clubs and OneGoal. Try Hockey for Free Day also is a component of USA Hockey and the NHL’s collaboration with the Let’s Move! initiative to help the nation’s youth lead healthier, more active lives through hockey.
