2025-26 Season Registration

Registration for the 2025-2026 season will open in July. Please check back for more details! You may view the registration packet below from the 2024-2025 season to have an understanding of general season requirements. An updated registration packet will be available when the 2025-26 registration opens.

NOT A RESIDENT OF SUN PRAIRIE AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT? PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE REGISTERING!

SPYHA welcomes families who reside within the Sun Prairie Area School District.  If you happen to live outside of the Sun Prairie Area School District and have not registered with SPYHA before, please contact the SPYHA Executive Committee at ecomm@spyha.com so that we can help you navigate the requirements for participating in Sun Prairie Youth Hockey. Our governing body, Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association, has strict boundary requirements that apply to all hockey players, regardless of level. If you open-enroll in Sun Prairie, but reside outside the school district boundaries, you are considered out-of-district for hockey purposes.

This is particularly important for families who reside within the Monona Grove School District, as the Madison Patriots are the home association for skaters within those boundaries.  A release from the Patriots is required to skate in Sun Prairie.   This is a state-level policy, not a SPYHA policy.

Wondering what the schedule looks like?

The practice schedule will be available on the SPYHA Calendar in early October. Because of the number of activities at Sun Prairie Ice Arena, specific practice times are usually released monthly for the following month.

Typically Squirts, PeeWees and Bantams have a skills practice on Mondays (all teams at a level on the ice at the same time), and then there are 2-3 teams on the ice for practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays, depending on the number of teams each level has.  Occasionally there may be an early morning practice or Friday practice for travel teams. On certain Varsity game weeks, skills practices will be moved to the night of the Varsity game.

Mites typically practice on Monday and Wednesday nights, with some early Saturday afternoons or an occasional Friday night. All practices are 45 minutes unless communicated otherwise.  League half-ice games at other rinks are typically scheduled for Sundays, but that information will not be available until November.

Mini-Mites typically practice on Wednesday nights, with some Saturdays (late morning/early afternoon) or Friday evenings.  These practices are also 45 minutes.  Game play for mini-mites are usually Sundays. Jamborees (half-ice and cross-ice games) for Mites and Mini-Mites played at other rinks are optional activities that will be discussed by the level rep and team reps.

Use the birth year information below to help determine what age range to register your player.  Note that beginning players typically begin at the Mini-Mite or Mite level, or begin with the Learn to Skate/New to SPYHA Hockey program).  If you are uncertain what level to register for, please contact the Executive Committee at ecomm@spyha.com.

SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE

SPYHA strives to make hockey an affordable activity for all players. In cases of financial hardship, scholarships may be available. The fundamental purpose of the memorial is to support Sun Prairie hockey, giving children a chance to play hockey who might not otherwise be able to participate due to financial reasons.

The following guidelines will be adhered to in administering the funds:

  • Travel families wishing to apply for scholarships must contact a member of the Executive Committee directly by September 1st to explain their circumstances and apply for this limited program. Please email ecomm@spyha.com.
  • Mite and Mini-Mite families must contact a member of the Executive Committee by October 1st.
  • Families should be prepared to submit additional supporting documentation (e.g., confidential income information including, but not limited to, recent income tax returns and payroll check stubs) and other pertinent information.
  • All information will be kept strictly confidential and will not be shared beyond the Executive Committee level, but any scholarship requests must be approved by the SPYHA Board of Directors.
  • Anyone who has failed to satisfy previous alternative payment agreements or has not been a member in good standing in the past may be refused scholarship opportunities for the current and future seasons. Player behavior may also be used as a consideration for scholarship assistance.
